Elbow Injury - tattiemasher - 02-27-2015

Any advice on recovering from a bruised/sore elbow? I fell on ice at the start of the week and my elbow took a big whack during it. I'm certain nothing is broken or fractured, and my movement isn't restricted, but it was tender when I put some pressure on it. For the first few days I iced it and it was getting better, then yesterday I fell again on the ice. My elbow didn't take the fall first, but it's put it back to square one. I can ice it again and try to stay away from slippery surfaces, but anything else I can do to help the healing process along, or how long I'll need to wait it out? Most searches I've done for elbow injuries show up fractures, and only a couple of bruised elbow injuries by sportsmen which gave a two-week timeframe.

On the same note, is it better to avoid any gym work using my arm, or can I do a workout that simply avoids too much strain on the elbow?

Does it affect your pulls or your presses more?

Some pumping work might be a good idea to flush the area with blood and facilitate healing. I like taking the lightest preloaded barbell and doing sets of curls and overhead tricep extensions to failure.

I haven't been to the gym this week because of it, mainly because I didn't want to risk it so soon, but from everyday stuff I feel it more, if anything, on pressing actions.

If it gradually improves again over the next couple of days I'll go in and try some basic stuff that's not going to be near my maximum, and add in some bodyweight exercises.
