A round trip flight to Amsterdam is 1200 usd. A round trip ticket to Delhi with a layover on the way and on the way back in Amsterdam is 750 usd. Could I purchase a ticket to Delhi and just stay in Amsterdam?

Im sure this has been discussed before but Google has turned up nothing.

This is called 'hidden-city ticketing' - It's possible in some certain circumstances (although is technically not allowed).

1. The ticket needs to be a ONE-WAY only. Once you skip a segment, the rest of the booking will be cancelled.

2. Your example will be a huge pain. India usually requires a visa and they will make you have a visa to board even the flight to Amsterdam most likely.

3. There are cheaper options. Like flying to another European city - DEL is a long way from Europe.

4. I do this a lot on flights in the USA - a good one is Atlanta, since Delta flights to ATL are expensive, and flights to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando are not [Image: smile.gif] Think LAX-ATL-FLL (and skip ATL-FLL)

5. You can't check bags. They will be checked to the final destination on your ticket.

6. If you do this a lot, and care about your miles/frequent flyer acount, you might end up in trouble. I'm a Diamond medallion with Delta and have done this probably 20 times though with no such issues.
