I know its beta, but I think hugs set something off in our bodies that automatically put us in a better mood. I used to wonder why my grandma hugs me so much and kisses my cheek but I see that its like a natural booster. I always try to give someone an extra long hug and started doing it with girls. It feels good to be touched by someone you like and makes you feel loved and appreciated. Am I crazy or does it do something for your health and body?

Definitely agree, intimate contact (not sex but hugs, kisses on the cheek, etc.) is something that is essential to the human health.

That why when people are first in love they are on a high.

I've seen it reported here or there that a 20-second hug, especially for women, sets off a cascade of feel-good chemicals, like oxytocin, in the body.
I'm sure to give my chicks at least two 30-second hugs per day. No matter how much I do it, it keeps them smiling like giddy school girls.

For sure, hugs are important and that's why in the weird country of Japan they have girls who hug other for money.

On the flipside, there are groups who go around hugging people in the street for that reason.

Another good reason why the medditeranean countries always score high in quality of living, they hug each other all the time.

Exactly. I use hugs as part of my game to maintain dominance. If a woman is starting to get pissed (looking down, no eye contact, body facing away) I will wrap her up in a hug. Be sure to keep it real, not patronizing. It will diffuse many tense situations.

Some guys are against post coitus contact. Im not. Her head on my chest and shoulder and her vag pressed against my leg is the peak of positions for releasing feel good chemicals.

Def agree. I read somewhere that babies die and older children suffer from all kinds of health problems if they're not hugged much.

Babies that are touched more (positive touch) are healthier and happier.

Adults (such as ourselves) that are hugged more, though at times we might resist, probably are happier.

Women generally initiate the hugs - admit it boys, it feels good.

Hugs are great boosters. I practically never leave my home without getting a hug from my niece and nephew. When my niece cries a hug will always make her stop. It's like we are programmed to feel better whenever we are hugged

Ja, neuro-chemically it's all down to oxytocin ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxytocin ), which has slightly different effects for men and women, but has been called the "feel-good" hormone. It has a much more powerful effect on women, and plays a big role in birth and breast feeding, but can make men feel good as well.

Also relevant, though somewhat dated:

The same effect can be observed from just a brief touch as well. There's absolutely something soothing in it.
