Flights to Thailand from US West coast - svenski7 - 02-21-2014
Has anyone here flown with EVA air? How was it?
I'm headed to BKK next month but can't decide on an airline or route. I have enough British Airways points for a free ticket. That flights goes through London but still only takes 24 hours to get to BKK all said and done which was a pleasant surprise.

I have - Bangkok to west coast through Taipei. Decent service, no complaints. Flew through a typhoon and didn't die, so that was a big plus. Any specific questions?

EVA, Asiana, THAI Airways, Singapore Airlines etc are all good. Basically all major Asian carriers offer great service. Sexy flight attendants free liquor, they don't skimp. They make flying a little more of a prestigious experience like it was back in the old days. You can't go wrong with EVA.

I took EVA air to and from BKK to Seattle. I think I stopped in Tapei Tawain both times.
On the way back from BKK to Seattle my longest leg of the trip from Tapaei to Seattle was a plan with each row of seating have 3 4 and 3 seats in each row. I was the only one in my row on the way back.
Has anyone else flown a route where the plane was maybe only half full?

My last time coming to BKK the two seats next to me where empty on the way there, and on the way back. I was able to lay down across all three and crash out.
Cathay Pacific was the carrier. Pretty great service. Hot flight attendants.

Not sure how accurate this is, but seems to be pretty much on the money.
Strange thing is they have Royal Jordanian at number 100, and I see crazy bad reviews about them. I fly with them from Tokyo to BKK I think it was and is was great. Best flight I ever took. Smaller plane but it was brand new. Even had my own tv in the headrest which you don't get with a lot of smaller planes, at least in the states. The flight attendants were crazy hot. Everything with the flight was smooth as silk. Though, maybe I just got lucky and got put on a brand new plane so everything seemed better than it normally is?

If you have that many British Airways points (Avios), then you would be better off taking Cathay Pacific from the US to HKG (35,000 Avios) and then to BKK (10,000 I think). The fees on Cathay Pacific should be a lot lower than taking British Airways through London, and I believe it would require less points as well.

Nah, you are right. I flew RJ regularly on JFK-AMM, FRA-AMM, AMS-AMM and AMM-BGW and they are great. Good service, good food, best entertainment system there is. RJ compares well to Emirates and Etihad.

ME airlines are boss. Add Qatar Airways to the list. I flew on their Houston-Doha 16hr direct, and the coach seats felt like biz class compared to other western airlines. Even budget Fly Dubai is better than a lot of American domestic carriers. My favorite though is DFS Middle East. Old ass planes, but not many commercial jets fly to Camp Leatherneck/Bastion. Fastest way to a cold Heineken.
You get spoiled working in that part of the world when air travel is involved, then come back home and get herded onto a South West cattle trailer with wings.
