Travel shows - gringoed - 10-29-2010

I'm hungry to find some new travel shows that are worth watching. What's good?

I like

Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations
InTransit ( http://www.intransit.tv/ )
Three Sheets

Travel shows - Dash Global - 10-29-2010

I like Vanguard on CurrentTV

Travel shows - OSL - 10-29-2010

Insomniac is great but I dont know where to find it.

Human Weapon and Fight Quest are about travel + martial arts, available on youtube. I personally like Human Weapon better.

There are also back episodes of Anthony Bourdain's old show that was on the Food Network, which is more or less like a poor man's No Reservations. Also available on youtube.

I want to start making my own travel documentaries but I don't know anything about filming and I can't decide which aspect of my travel life I want to focus on. Anyone here make documentaries?

Michael Palin did a 6-7 episodes series on eastern-europe. He did a shitty job with the balkans if you ask me (interviewing for example bulgaria's most famous gay gypsie). but still worth skimming through if you're not too familiar with the region as he rapidly hits about 20 countries. It's called "new europe".

Otherwise, no reservations and three sheets are also my favorites.

I love Dhani Jones - Tackles The Globe show!

http://www.travelchannel.com/TV_Shows/Dhani_Jones

Jones is the star of Dhani Tackles the Globe, a series for the Travel Channel in which he learns how to play international sports that are unknown to most Americans. The show had a successful 1st season and began airing a second season on April 19, 2010.

Travel shows - Biz - 10-29-2010

Three Sheets is def one of the best shows ever

Travel shows - El Viajero - 10-29-2010

An Idiot Abroad is a new show in the U.K. and I have always been a huge fan of the Globe Trekker series. julian and camilla's world odyssey is also pretty good.

Does anyone know of any shows integrating the whole "travel playboy" lifestyle we all subscribe to?

Travel shows - ManAbout - 10-29-2010

There used to be a show on about 10 years ago, called "Wild On" on E! channel which went to all the party hotspots all over the world. It was the usual places though, like Ibiza, Rio etc. Might still be fun to watch.

Not exactly "travel playboy" related, but these guys do jetset lifestyle videos:

http://jetsetlife.tv/destinations.html

Travel shows - OSL - 10-30-2010

No, there is definitely some pickup documentary where the guy tries to get a date in every city he goes to. I forget what it is but it's there, I"ve seen it before. He's not very good but at least it's entertaining.

Travel shows - gringoed - 10-31-2010

Is this it?

http://www.mojohd.com/mojoseries/gettingabroad/

I can't find the episodes anywhere.

Travel shows - alchemist - 10-31-2010

Don't know about "travel playboy" stuff but if you want something different or are interested in travelling to edgier places, check out the Vice Travel videos. Here's a couple to start:

Liberia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQSjyYRTDVM
North Korea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oIu0RpDE...re=related

I've always liked Michael Palin's shows but they're not much use for advice on getting laid.

Travel shows - OSL - 10-31-2010

This is a great thread.

The above is "Dr. Danger" who goes to places like Somalia and generally just acts like a cocky WASP.

Never gets shot though, I think.

Travel shows - Vacancier Permanent - 10-31-2010

For travel shows, my fav so far is Departures, a Canadian show, about 2 20 something friends travelling the world and filming it. They're on their 3rd season now. I also aspire on doing my own film documentary series but with a very specific niche in mind. I think to succeed in this very competitve field (like any field in business really) you must focus on a specific niche and build on it.

For playboy traveling, there is a show which was mentioned on these forums not long ago, but can't remember the name at this time.

x2

Plus this show called sin city http://www.showcase.ca/sincities/aboutshow.aspx
Having wandered through some of the world’s most exotic environments, observing the persuasions and peccadilloes of some of the world’s most unusual people, you’d think Ashley Hames would have seen it all by now.

Travel shows - Lumiere - 11-01-2010

The nat geo adventure channel is just the best.

My fav show on there is Banged Up Abroad

Details here :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banged_Up_Abroad

It s an awesome British show. My fav episode so far was about the american dude selling pot in mexico whos customer (another american) freaked when they got stopped by two cops on the beach, pulled a gun and blasted both cops and then ran leaving the dealer to face the music.

Story was great, hiding out in a safe house with a bullet in his leg, dressing up as a woman and trying to smuggle himself out of town and the time he spent in prison and dealing with mexican cops after they think he has shot two of them.

Totally wild.

Makes my story of recently spending the night in a Phillipine prison cell relatively tame.

Travel shows - Chase - 11-08-2010

http://www.monocle.com has some well-done city portraits.

Travel shows - Screwston - 11-19-2011

Those Vice Travel videos are good. There's one on Poland that needs to be in the Poland thread. Has a young guy going around the 2 major cities and not doing the typical tourist shit.

Travel shows - KingofScotland - 11-19-2011

Trabant Trek is the one I've enjoted most recently. I read the book years ago in Cambodia and it's just finally been shown on The Travel Channel in the UK. It's a self shot docu following a convoy of 3 groups driving Trabants (old, plastic East German cars - total rust buckets) from Germany to Cambodia for charity through Central Asia, China etc. Took 6 months, cars break down couple of times a day, group gets smaller and smaller as the weeks go on. Not the best quality as filmed on handheld cameras by the guys themselves but enjoyable.

Travel shows - Deb Auchery - 11-19-2011

When I was younger Michael Palin was my inspiration. Now it's Pierre Woodman [Image: wink.gif]

Travel shows - OSL - 11-19-2011

Samantha Brown is an idiot. I don't know why she's got her own show.

Travel shows - Vacancier Permanent - 11-20-2011

Lumiere,
I realize this was posted a year ago, but just saw it now. What happened that made you spend a night in a cell in a Pinoy prison? Care to share what happened? I'm very curious man.

I will second Dexpedition, more of the playboy/party lifestyle and pretty entertaining watch.

Only problem is they get invited to a bunch of "exclusive" events that I would assume would be out of reach for the average travelers.
