Don't be mislead. While his remark was gauche, the bigger offense is clearly proposing that obese people are responsible for their behavior. This is a sin against "victimhood." How dare he attribute a condition like obesity to "will power"? Will power - a college professor said this! Everyone knows it is a sickness. Why he's judging a poor unfortunate sick person who actually needs pity and therapy. This person probably deserves special consideration and workplace accommodation for his or her time in the PhD program because of disability, rather than ostracism!
