Anyone every to start a non for profit company? How hard is it in the US?
Id like to start one so I can link up with my for profit and do some mix marketing

1. Incorporate in your state of choice
2. File a 501c election with the IRS, corresponding nonprofit declaration with state
3. Wait.

If you commingle the nonprofit business with your for-profit business you're a lot more likely to get rejected or audited.

As lurker said these are the steps. I incorporated in Delaware it helped with corporate governance a bit. The fun part is making sure you comply properly once it's up and running. If you're starting something small a company like Foundation Source can help.

Might want to name your non profit something like Progressive Green Initiative in order to speed up the IRS process...
