I don't completely get the theory.
Is that that at 46/47 men reach peak wealth and start spending money? Is he saying "mid-life crisis" purchases like a Harley or a Corvette or a boat drive the economy?

Yes.
Major problem with aging population. They have lots of money saved for retirement but little discretionary spending.
Of course, there's those that are getting old now. Nothing saved and they still need to be fed, clothed, housed. Since they are Boomers they expect the best of all of those even if they can't pay for it.
