Of course because they have more time to watch Oprah and eat bonbons, instead of cleaning the house and doing other housework.

Women are piling on the pounds because they have cut down on housework - Jules D. McMillan - 03-01-2013

Makes sense. I would also add that it's because of the fatty acceptance movement as well.

Feminist and relationships expert Jean Hannah Edelstein said it was a ‘preposterous, sexist assumption’ to suggest that women should do more cleaning to slim down.

She said: ‘It’s not like men are getting any thinner either - perhaps they should get off their behinds and do some more housework!’

What the fuck is this obligatory feminist opinion in the article doing?

I've read studies that claim women actually enjoy household chores on a level that we don't understand.

Nesting instinct.

Women are piling on the pounds because they have cut down on housework - Handsome Creepy Eel - 03-01-2013

The article was immediately attacked as "sexist" for implying that housework is an inherently female task.

There is no hope for this civilization.

That picture is so nasty. That is what I envision 75% of what Western wives become.

Why should they when they're already busting their arses at work and in the gym, while their wives lay around watching Dr Phil?

I wonder if the woman in picture A is happier than the woman in picture B?

You know, since she's free to smoke and drink as much as she wants, and doesn't have to spend any time on housework.

Women are piling on the pounds because they have cut down on housework - Alpha Hunter Zero - 03-01-2013

When I looked at that picture I instantly matched it with 3 moms of 3 different friends of mine. Its almost scary because aside from a few very minor differences they all almost look exactly like the fat woman in the first post. To top it off all they do is smoke, yell, use profane language, and watch television.

Another Daily Mail article, predicting in 2050 60% of Britain will be obese...

I think not doing housework is just a small part of the larger issue of lacking shame. Notice in photo B the woman wears make-up, has her hair done, is well dressed.

If what she's looking at is a mirror, she'll likely need to top that glass up a few more times.

It is in large part our food supply: processed, genetically modified, chemically treated, hormone and antibiotic infested.

We got fat because we forgot how to grow, harvest, prepare healthful food as families and communities.

In large part because women stopped cooking.

Mostly agree. People are eating more sugar, vegetable oils and processed foods. Plus, if a girl does not cook at home, her odds of being fat are much much higher - I think that's a big part of the difference; cooking is not *that* physically strenuous. Food she eats out, or prepares with a frozen TV dinner, is more fattening than and inferior to the food she would cook, if she knew how.

Finnish statistical data supports this. Finnish women used an average of 24.5 hours per week on housework in 1987-88, but only 23.9 hours in 2009-10. They watch 4.5 hours more television per week nowadays than 20 years ago. Interesting enough, they also sleep more...

This is inevitable with modern technology. Housework is much easier than it used to be before dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, vacuums, etc

People need to eat right and exercise. There are no shortcuts.

The nesting instinct is something real though. Any woman who isn't completely ruined by modern society still has a nesting instinct.
