You know what’s comedy gold here? Do you see MC Hammer next to PSY and all around PSY nowadays? You do realize MC Hammer used to run concerts with Oaktown 357 in the background dancing, a bunch of attractive sistas and other dancers and if you haven’t figured it out, PSY is using that same template MC Hammer created back in the late 80s and early 90s. Yeah, once again we see brothas and sistas starting a genre or format and now being adopted by someone else who is getting super rich.

Because the truth is, you didn’t see any rappers out there for New Year Eve headlining with the exception of Pitbull, but you saw a lot of autotune lip syncing artists performing behind some dance track didn’t you? That is the sign right here and the indicator for all these Black artists that the mainstream don’t need their self-hating cooning performances anymore. They got Pitbull and PSY and if they want Black rappers, they will listen to FloRida:

Rap gave birth to autotune pop stars?

in this interview with mc hammer he tried to justify his excessive spending because he took people out of the dangerous projects by giving them a bankroll. maybe i cant relate but this guy should have consulted with a financial adviser.

Don't hate a guy who grew up poor for being generous.

He probably did.

And that was the guy that probably stole from him the most.

Rap didn't spawn the whole auto tune lip syncing trend, that's been going on for years. The author is claiming that this is the next genre, lip syncing dance music. Because for music executives it's their gold mine, and people are jumping on the bandwagon. And because blacks are self-hating with their music then they will be left behind, in terms of where the money is at or going to be at (lip syncing dance music).

there is a thin line between generosity and stupidity. also some guy telling him to buy stocks is rarely the end of rich people. thats the exception. its kind of like listening to people who say dont invest in the stock market, look what happened to madoffs clients.

Psy is a one hit phenomenon here so I would not extrapolate anything about trends in black performers based on him.

Also don't get the self hate thing. Black rap artists are widely emulated the world over. Many of these foreign acts look funny to me b/c they try but fail to capture the blackness.

I don't think it was any ONE thing that killed MC Hammer. It was a combination of things. Did he have advisors stealing from him? Probably. Was he incredibly generous to his homies? Yep. Did he get poor advise with regards to business ventures and investments that went bust? (like getting involved with thoroughbred horses, etc., shit he didn't know anything about) Check. Did he engage in extravagance far beyond what he was earning? (he built a mansion with marble/stone imported from Italy, had gold fixtures on the sinks, etc.) Abso-fuckin'-lutely. He isn't the first artist to live beyond his means, and he won't be the last. Recording artists don't make a lot of money from records - they make pennies per unit sold. They make it on publishing, and touring/merchandising. He was basically a pop fad, and couldn't sustain what he was doing. I remember his attempt at re-inventing (he hardened-up, putting on all black with a ski cap and put out "The Funky Headhunter," which was comical at best). I took no joy in seeing what happened to him, but he's definitely a cautionary tale.

Trash ass article. How the hell is Mc Hammer still making moves in the music industry lol? I guess you can always sneak your way back in there once you're so big.

LMAO I never knew he tried to make gangsta music when it was getting popular. Like Vanilla ice.
