Napping - Basil Ransom - 09-20-2012

Does anyone here nap regularly, to accommodate your schedule?

I often come home with a good amount of dead time until it's prime macking time, especially on a Thursday night. So either I go out and get shitty sleep, or I don't go out at all. If I got a solid 3 hour nap, say from 6:30-9:30, that'd let me get enough sleep *and* go out. I'd also like to try meeting some weeknight sluts, without feeling like shit the next day from missing 2 hours of sleep.

How would you force yourself to get great naps on command, when you aren't used to it? Is it possible? Is it advisable to take naps like this some days, and other times get your standard 8 hours?

Personally I usually feel like shit if I nap during the day. Feel kind of out of it an foggy, if I nap to long my head will slightly hurt.

I love to nap and do it a few times a week. Usually just 45 minutes or so. I don't like to fall too deeply into sleep because then it can be hard to get up. I hear Benjamin Franklin used to sit and chair with a little bell in his hand. When he relaxed enough that the bell would drop out of his hands, he would get up. Sometimes, just 20 minutes is enough to restore your power.

Love napping. On my days off I take one almost every afternoon to recharge, so I don't feel too groggy staying up most of the night.

I try not to nap for more than an hour or two, and when I wake up, I drink a glass of water and do a few exercises to get myself going again.

I try and nap most days.

I find this works quite well. Have a cup of coffee right before you stretch out. Dont get under the blankets and be sure to sleep on your back. After about 30-40 min the caffeine is peaking and also you will have to piss. When you get up to use the toilet you will feel the effects of the coffee and will be good to go.

I find this much better then setting an alarm or just using chance to get up. Any more than an hour nap leaves me groggy and sometimes grouchy and a slight headache.

I think Dali use to do that as well. Supposedly your brain almost completely uses alpha brain waves (which encourage creativity) right when you fall asleep. Hence Dali would sit in his chair and right when he was dozing out of consciousness he would rouse himself by dropping his bell. He would then have creative epiphanies since his brain was emanating these "creative" alpha waves.

I would assume Franklin did it for similar reasons, given that he invented/discovered so much.

Edit: I'm not 100% sure if it's alpha waves, but the concept is true.

I love taking naps but I always get headaches if it's a quick o ne for some reason. I need a 2 hour one to feel refreshed and good.
