How do you read the forum? - Roosh - 09-09-2012

I was just curious on how you guy handle the massive amounts of information that flow through here (~20 new threads and 500 posts a day). What are your forum reading habits like?

I visit a couple dozen times a day and usually go straight to Everything Else, mainly for entertainment. Then eventually I make my way to Travel to see if there's any talk about locations I'm interested in. I'm in there more when I'm thinking of where to go next or having some difficulty with the local women.

Then finally I go to Game to see what's cooking there. Lifestyle is last but lately I've been checking in there more as it's getting increasingly popular.

I kind of look for threads that have a few replies first before opening if it's by a newb so I don't waste the 1 second time to click. I go through the forum like a parrot, clicking a little bit each visit. Lately I've been using the Twitter account to catch new threads.

I used to read Reddit like this a couple years ago, but the topics there don't interest me lately. I just go to see what's viral. Most of the interesting shit I get from here.

I click on the "View new posts."

Then I start scrolling down.

Two things draw me in. Either the title/poster is good, or the username of someone who is legit show up as having the last post.

^^^ I do that a different way. My last visit of the day before cutting off the laptop I click "Mark all forums read" and then my next visit anything that is new will be bold.

After my initial dive-in, where I just read everything I could find that was interesting to me, I've just been following @rooshvforum on Twitter, and clicking on anything that sounds interesting to me.

I look for what certain posters write since their styles intrigue me. I ninja troll el mechanico (by seeing what he is reading) and then I look.
I see what kosko puts down on health (he got that onlock IMO).
I read what MikeCF puts down (he's a sarky fcuk).
I look at Tuth's memes (they crack me up).

If none of those guys are present, I hit the 'View New posts' (didn't notice it until BigXXX pointed it out).
Sometimes to spice it up, I hit 'View Today's posts'..but only if I am up at 6am EST.

I go to the travel section mainly... then a little bit in the everything else and lifestyle. I'm almost never in the game section. Hit the forum about 3 times a day for about 5 minutes... longer if there's a string of new posts on a topic I'm interested in.

One thing I think would be good is making the star rating anonymous. People will be more like to rate a thread's value if they could do it anonymously. I will often go straight to threads with a 5 star rating, especially if I see a high post count. We should use the rating system more do we can help others get to the good stuff first.

I admit that I myself can be reluctant to vote a thread down if it's by a well liked member, even if the quality is subpar. Just something to consider.

Almost exclusively on the Everything Else subforum. As one member stated, "It's like reading a manly newspaper." No feminist pandering, no beta supplicants, just lucid commentary from the RVF.

After watching the cigar shop vid Roosh tweeted, I noticed that there were no women in the store. They way customers regard the shop seems like it's a place where men can be men without apology--same as this forum.

If there's an established thread like "Funny and Cool pics/vids," reading it can wait until the post count accumulates. If it's a new thread, I'll take a look, then wait for trolling memes (Tuth), in-depth social analysis (Athlone), or Dukes of Hazzard shenanigans (Emech) to come rolling in.

I always start with "Everything Else," then move to "Game," then "Travel." I don't check "Lifestyle" every time I pop in, but eventually get to it.

I usually check the forums a few times throughout the day to see what's new. Mostly hang out in the Lifestyle Forum and Everything Else. Occasionally pop in to Game, rarely into Travel. I've got a lot of value out of Lifestyle and been applying them to my life to great effect. Things as trivial as Baking Soda all the way to changing my diet and taking vitamins. Been feeling lot healthier thanks to the information there. The guys in Lifestyle really know their stuff and are open about sharing it.

I read new threads in EE that aren't Yahoo News related and Travel if the location is interesting.

I also daily check the Online Hamster thread because it is hilarious. I pop into Game a couple time a weeks and once a week the newbie forum.

I only check lifestyle forum if the most recently posted on thread looks good.

from the main forum page, break out each of the four sections and start skimming. I do this multiple times a day, there's too much good shit to read. 9-5 lifestyle is fucking killing me, I have to live vicariously through our fellow travelling players (for the moment).

i'll be on the train to/from work, browsing through threads on my phone. makes shit somewhat bearable when I'm tired as fuck at 8am, surrounded by fat bitches/older guys on the verge of suicide/homeless motherfuckers wreaking of piss

How do you read the forum? - Kickb - 09-09-2012

I visit the forum on my phone throughout the day. I usually start with everything else and skim the thread titles to see of anything jumps out at me. I like reading the random things people post in the forum lounge. I will always open a thread if a high quality user created it.

After I skim everything else I move onto the Game section.

I visit the lifestyle section a couple times a day.

The only reason I view the travel forum is to read Ali's DR stories.

How do you read the forum? - Cincinnatus - 09-09-2012

I usually start off by logging in and checking the Everything Else forum. I'll browse to see if any threads I've posted in have new replies, then I'll browse thread titles I haven't posted in to see if anything catches my eye.

After that I move up through the forums - after checking Everything Else, I'll go to Lifestyle, then Travel, then Game.

It's pretty rare I visit the subforums.

View new posts, the view new posts link is my bookmark for the forum. I work my way down the list of new posts opening up interesting titles in new tabs, then read through em one at a time.

How do you read the forum? - RougeNoir - 09-09-2012

Travel, Game, Everything Else, Everything El Mechanico in that order.

How do you read the forum? - Rah - 09-10-2012

View new posts -> skim skim skim. Been playing around with adding long posts that look like they have value to Instapaper, which I have sent to my kindle every night.

Like you I check out everything else for entertainment,

I only read post by guys I respect and ignore noob posts.

i.e. Roosh, Samseau

How do you read the forum? - R Smoov - 09-10-2012

Honestly, I just look at whatever section is unread on my phone.
I'll read the game section, then flip to lifestyle, then everything else. I don't really read Travel that much, but its still alright.

I still find it as a manly newspaper. And a little relief from the beta bullshit that gets thrown at everyone daily haha.

I work form top to bottom. I start in the Game section ( I hardly ever visit or comment in the newbie section, a couple of times i went out of my way to help guys out but got nothing of value in return). Then I look in the Travel section to see if there's something to read about the places i have been or the places that interest me.

Then i move on to Lifestyle to read up on health and occasionally peek in the no fap thread.

Last, i visit the Everything else section to end up with a laugh or to wonder about the strabge things in the world.

I also read posts of members who's opinion I value. Even if the subject isn't that interesting to me

How do you read the forum? - Lothario - 09-10-2012

Reading :I check Game Forum, Travel , Lifestyle , Everything forum in order and anything that catches my eye I read, some threads not of interst I don't even open. Some threads go on a reading list to be savored at ease [Image: smile.gif]

Like others have said Posts from known/Valuable RVFers I always read, Forum Members that I have met always get read.

Contributing: If I don't have a genuine question or I don't think I have something solid to contribute I stay quiet. I like to help out the new players from time to time.
