I saw the Bodies Exhibition when it came to Cincinnati in 2008 or 2009. Can't remember. Utterly fascinating, and also controversial.

I heard that China used the bodies of political dissidents/prisoners for that exhibit.

That's my understanding, also.

No offense intended towards potential innocents used for the exhibit, but, personally, I think it'd be an awesome way to be fixed up after death. Fuck cremation or burial, plastinate my ass. I hear plastics take hundreds of years to decompose. Beat that, formaldehyde.

It's funny you say that- I've always thought the same thing.

I went to one of those bodies exhibits a couple years back.
It was awesome.
ha
The even had a fat person that had been cut in half just so you could see how nasty they look.
no such think as big boned..only big mouthed

Do any of yall read magazines like popular science and mechanics?
I should have posted this in a deals thread..but every now an then these subscriptions get marked down super cheap somewhere.

I got year subscriptions to both for like 5 bucks each

Cool Science Thread - speakeasy - 08-15-2012

I find the body works exhibition to be disturbing. I just don't want to see mutilated human bodies on display. It's kinda nasty to me.

Shit gets real at 1minute

ive been following this guy for a while..dude is clearly a nerd. but knows his shit backwords forward, side to side..ect.

his videos on helicopter physics actually inspired me get into rc helis.

im still flying a single rotar fixed pitch mini...but one day when I can convince myself to spend some money on this hobby and not fear for crashing...ill step up to a collective pitch helicopter

Yeah, but would that work with an a big helicopter? I doubt it.

I think that we need to invent a cock pit that is a sphere that is separate from the motions of all that shit. Kind of like a ball-bearing or gyroscope that is un-affected by those crazy shifts.

They could make boats and submarines like this, and you wouldn't feel the waves or turbulence even if the shell part flipped over.

Cool Science Thread - Sourcecode - 08-16-2012

real helicopters can't do anything like that cause of some problem that the pitch can't be changed the same way to create that amount of thrust when inverted
even if they could, the force in such a big machine would rip it apart. it would have to be special made and strengthened..

I'm problem only half right. But that dude has like a 4 video series that really explains it if you're interested.

i just know enough about military helicopters that changing the pitch that fast would cause the rotors to snap if the didn't bend and hit the heli first

A colleague told me that we now have the means to build a space elevator on the moon.
Also there is a private startup looking to mine asteroids.

I like space.com. There's also a youtube channel called spacerip that has tons of good documentaries on astronomy, space travel, theoretical physics and stuff like that.

A sleeping pill has been accidentally discovered to stimulate brain activity in brain damaged patients, with the result that some patients in permanent coma have awoken and started talking. Some amazing and heartwarming stories in this article:

Ramesh Raskar presents femto-photography, a new type of imaging so fast it visualizes the world one trillion frames per second, so detailed it shows light itself in motion. This technology may someday be used to build cameras that can look "around" corners or see inside the body without X-rays.

The one that stands out to me the most is the Heat Death of the Universe

Next time you get approach anxiety, just remember that the entire universe will eventually turn into static black mud, and life will no longer be able to exist when all the energy is exhausted.

You've really got to live for the now.

I'm a huge fan of singularity2050.com, somewhat of a red piller as well. Of particular interest is his post called "Misandry Bubble."

Is this a mosquito?

No. It's an insect spy drone for urban areas, already in production, funded by the US Government. It can be remotely controlled and is equipped with a camera and a microphone. It can land on you, and it may have the potential to take a DNA sample or leave RFID tracking nanotechnology on your skin. It can fly through an open window, or it can attach to your clothing until you take it in your home.
