Guys,
I'd need some feedback from the financial guys in here. What would be the best long term investment for a new born kid? An RESP or a mutual fund/investment account with a bank/brokerage firm? Time frame for this investment would be till the kid turns 18. I'd like some unbiased feedback from experienced guys here before contacting banks/investment firms.
Very much appreciated guys,
Cheers.

1. a blue chip Asian company: China, Taiwan, Thai, Korea, - even Australia
the trend for the next 20 years is Asia and affiliated economies.
2. collectibles: art, antiques, coins,
-the best asset class by far - but need to be patient, but 18 years is perfect time horizon and pay a pretty penny up front
3. Land: in/near major urban area or agricultural land:
-only problem: taxes (and insurance) - but perfect for 18 year time line

How are bonds doing now?
My parents gave me a a big brown envelope with thousands of dollars in bonds when I graduated highschool.
They told me,theres more where that came from when I finish college.
I have no idea if bonds are worth it now days...but it might be a decent investment,to hold money and keep it stable for longterm

I was going to say a quality mother, but then I saw that this was a financial thread.
I'd say a couple thousand dollars (or more) in an IRA account that the kid doesn't know about until he's 35.

invest in TKECF (buy on the japanese market, 9501). the company that runs the nuclear plant that got owned by the japanese tsunami. Total disaster play that I would guess would be at least 5x current price in 3-5 years.
in 18 years they will be without a doubt profitable again, and will have reinstated the dividends.
Other than that, go with what others said and go with a BRIC blue chip that offers dividends.
or how about this: your a businessman so give her a percentage of your company. I just updated my will giving 5% shares to my niece. Not much an awful much now, but it could be in the future.
