I could have, literally died, 20 minutes ago.
After one hell of a reunion party. After one awesome night out on the town.
All of a sudden the night ended with me and a friend taking a rally around the island we live on.
I remember a few things....
He driving terribly fast, considering the road was about to end...
Me taking my seatbelt on... (nobody wears a seatbelt here, as the speed limit is 30 km/h)
A big tree
A bang
Lots of smoke in the car
Me yelling at the driver...
me dragging the driver out...
ME
ME ME ME: Thinking that I am the dumbest guy in the world... he was shitfaced! I, am still shitfaced....
We both walked home... full of blood in our faces... my stomach hurts like hell at the moment... thankfully, I don't feel anything in my neck or head...
We drove a brand new BMW, and I think the airbags are pretty top notch.
The car is totalled... all on my side...
apparently I am still in shock....
I'm shaking a little bit... but in general I feel fine... a bit sore on my stomach from the belt...
I am going to sleep now, please feel free to tell me how dumb I've been... = )

Walking away from gnarly car wrecks always makes for good stories. Every few years I total a car and hop out without a scratch.

No taxis on our tiny island... 350 people here, and everybody knows each other..
Next morning the car was gone, someone had called the cops. Also, it turns out that the car was fitted with some illegal boost. Also, the car was also illegal, as he didn't have insurance :/ ... My friend is really in a shitstorm now... the cops will be showing up at his doorstep any second.
He is hiding at a friends house, and has shut off his phone... I don't think he will be charged with drunk driving, as they can't prove that now.
The official story is that I wasn't with him. No point in having two stories to tell...
I feel a bit better today, still some soreness in my stomach. The organs feel fine though, I think its just the muscles and the hips...

That's true.
I truly believe being shit faced has saved my life many times.
However, I probably wouldn't have been in said situations in the first place had I been sober. I think that's a Catch-22.

The cops aren't going to do anything.
They aren't gonna check for chips, and the only way they will want insurance is if you go to pick it up.

Probably too late now but I would have reported the car stolen, not sure how well that would go down on your tiny island though. You say that you're not sore now but give it a few days or even weeks and any soft tissue injury may cause you to be in a lot of pain.

350 people on the whole island? That has to be tough to game after a short while....
I've totaled a few vehicles and never got a scratch. From bouncing off a tree at about 60mph, ended up sitting on top of the console, running a snowmobile through a barbed wire fence at 70mph, to totalling a telephone pole with a Silverado, always walked away. Knowing my luck won't last forever, I have toned it down a bit.....
I take a lot of taxis now.
