Anybody know a way to completely ban porn from a laptop. Especially the top sites like xvideos and pornhub? My willpower is ok so far but I want a safety net.

I've found wide-net filters not to be too useful. Too many false positives (which start to interfere with regular browsing) and too easy to disable. What worked for me was identifying the most problematic sites for me personally and blocking them in an application called Cold Turkey. I blocked all the top porn sites as well as Instagram, Reddit, etc. Cold Turkey's almost impossible to disable. I ended up buying the license.

The best thing you can do though is to cut your electronics use in the first place. I almost completely stopped browsing mindlessly, which is bad for you too, by the way (fake dopamine hits).

So I've been doing "No Nut" November but have been No Porn/No Fap for over 30 days (mid Oct).

I've always flirted with No Porn but have always caved in around the two week mark and indulged. I kind of think that's the big sticking point, the 12 to 18 day period of stopping Porn and Fapping. Going a week without it is easy and most guys can do it. It's the second week that's the most difficult as the urges come back strong. And there's really nothing that will help you other than old fashioned willpower and discipline.

But once you power through the second and third weeks, it's seriously smooth sailing. I feel great and have no urges to look at porn, Instagram hos, or fap at all.

As far as being abstinent for close to 28 days now, I feel great. Been trying to meditate every day for the past couple of weeks, and although I haven't activated my third eye or developed super powers (joking), I feel more present in my conversations, can maintain stronger eye contact, and just feel more charismatic overall. And of course that leads to greater confidence and happiness in my day to day interactions with everyone.

Obviously not planning on being abstinent forever, but I am going to finish off the month no nut. I just feel a greater sense of well being and contentment.

I think someone should commission a study that monitors one group of men who watch porn and fap, and monitors another group that are completely abstinent (as long as they are completely honest) in order to study the effects on the body and the brain.

Unless there's been a study already? I tried searching for one, but no clear results.

The precise issue with such studies is that researchers have been unable to locate a group of men who have never been exposed to pornography and/or are not regular consumers of it. With NoFap and the like gaining greater exposure this might change. The best way to conduct such an experiment would be to do a closed-door lab test over, say, a month. But, good luck getting funding or ethics approval for that.

Also, this is the exact type of study that they don't want. When you get in to academic studies and writing grant proposals, you very quickly learn that there are people pulling the strings on most of this stuff. You want to study how interracial coupling improves fetal development? Great, here's a million dollars. You want to study the effects of pesticides manufactured by [redacted]? Good luck with that, and good luck getting tenure.

The effects of porn use, specifically in men, is an area of study that is a bit dicey. For years, you were only getting grant approvals for studies that would reinforce the idea that masturbation to porn was "natural" and "healthy". Recently, there have been a number of closed and private studies looking in to possible detrimental effects. Interestingly, the funding for these studies is coming almost exclusively from the US government.

I had a pretty tough breakup last month and as a result I fell back into the porn spiral. At the advise of some forum members, I've been using K9 Web Protection for a few weeks now and I highly recommend it.

Benefits:

-Free
-Blocks through all browsers, so you can't just open another browser to bypass it
-Infinitely customize-able, so if you're like me and love browsing Reddit for porn gifs, you can block all of Reddit with this tool
-Password protected, which lets you create a random, difficult password you can store away from your computer to prevent easy disabling of the blocker

The interesting thing I've found is that I don't really care about masturbating. It's moreso that the porn makes me horny which makes me want to jerk off. So, removing the porn from my life is the #1 goal now.

Since 3 days I’ve been doing nofap and ever since have installed Qustodio on my laptop and phone - it is effective but sometimes I resort to IG and looking at IG models. Even though I edged to that today for a brief moment I’m staying strong and keeping as busy as I can.

3 months porn free, a few strategies that have helped me:

-Accountability group: I am in a group with a few guys and we check in once a week to ensure we are all on the right path.

-Focus on identity level change: I say to myself over and over that I am not the type of person that watches porn. I realize the long term consequences of porn on my brain's dopamine circuitry and am not wiling to accept the type of person it will lead me to become.

-Check out porn free sub on reddit

-Replace porn with something more productive: for me it has been starting a side project. Also any form of exercise.

Good luck guys.

I gave up on blocking the porn on my computer because I found that, if I really want to access it, I can bypass whatever block I put in place. Even Cold Turkey can be circumvented by just uninstalling it and then re-installing it after you're done sabotaging yourself. I still use Cold Turkey for sites like Youtube but mainly just as a scheduling tool to remind me when I have lost track of time and need to do productive things or just go outside. As for porn, I don't currently have any blocks in place so I'm relying on willpower and the formation of newer and healthier habits.

I think it is absolutely essential to have other things to do throughout your day that get you outside of your dwelling and into the elements. Physical activity like sports, working outside, urban exploration, walking around the historic part of town, and things of the like will take your mind away from porn, ingrain new habits in you that will take over the time that you used to waste on porn, get you healthier, and put you into more situations where you are not just alone with your own doubts and old habits and where you are more likely to come into contact with women whom you can engage with (and you will be more likely to have the drive and energy to engage because you will not have already jerked it 15 times in the past 5 days).

My way may not be every man's way and to each his own as long as you secure your objective.

I spent many hours on this subject. It is impossible to have a 100% porn-free laptop. The only way to do this is if you block 90% of a laptop's functionality (ie block all images and video etc). Let go of the idea of having a 100% porn-free-and-still-functioning-laptop because its impossible.

I still remember searching for porn in instagram, twitter, duckduckgo etc : )

What you can do is try to put distance between yourself and porn.

An alcoholic needs to walk to the bar to buy booze. If you are addicted to cigarettes you need to get up, wear clothes, go out and buy a pack and a lighter. With porn you are chilling on your sofa then bam all it takes is an instagram thot in a bikini and the addiction part of your brain fires up.

Your goal should be to have porn more than one mouse click away. That's the only thing that worked for me.

I would recommend:

1. Install multiple safety nets:
- setup DNS (include exceptions)
- ColdTurkey or other app to individually mark websites
- NetNanny (paid - the best app around hands down)
- App which shuts down internet completely for a few hours in case of emergency (eg freedom)

2. Accept loss of functionality and learn to live with it. Collateral damage

3. Have porn available but not immediately available.
Its hard to find porn on my laptop, but I have a burner phone permanently kept in my office, at work : ) If I want to watch porn I need to consciously decide at work to bring it home.

4. When going nofap, I go for set periods of time. Eg now I am going for a 4 month streak. I will jerk off again in 2 months or so. Having an end in sight makes it easier for me to go long periods (I've done more than 100 days in the past). Its easier to resist temptation that way in my opinion.

In my experience the maximum degree of insulation possible is with an iphone (happy to provide details if you want).

An element of self-control will always be necessary for noporn. I remember blocking half my laptop's functionality last year only to buy a new TV and discover TVs now come with a built-in browser.

Anyone need an accountability buddy for this?

I've been struggling with the no fap thing recently and feel like the added motivation that comes with an accountability partner would be helpful.

336 days clean. I am at the point where a thought of jacking off to porn makes my stomach twist in disgust. I want to keep it that way and I want to have the same feeling about drinking. Just hate it.

I torrent most of my movies, music, books, etc., including my porn so having something like a blocker doesn't work. I have gone roughly 3 weeks before nofap and no porn so I will try that again. I just deleted all of it on my computer.

I know its a ridiculous loss of functionality and a lot of hassle but its a last resort solution if you need serious help to go nofap for say the next 3 weeks:

1. Download all the books/movies/music you need for the next 3 weeks
2. Delete torrent software
3. Set mandatory administrator authorisation for all new software installations
4. Have a friend set the administrator password and tell him to give you the password 3 weeks later

Either try to avoid any stress during the first few days or get away immediately from the source of your sudden stress (if possible) and use that anger for energy to occupy you with something productive such as working out or towards a project or something else you're working on but do not let yourself turn to porn.

I think hobbies and side projects and working out are good... but. Not for days when, you have:

Already worked out
Already burned yourself out on a particular hobby/project.
Are lacking in sleep.

For me. It’s always when I am tired and running behind on sleep, because I don’t feel like going out of the house, working out, or anything...

I agree with the user above, there has to be an identity change, where you believe your different than others for not looking at porn, a constant patting on the back that you understand you are the wise one... then you slowly form a disgust reaction to it. Like that food you always loved but because food sick on... now you don’t even want to think about that food for a second.

I will say it is impossible these days to do porn and not be exposed to “prevented” things. All of the side tabs are gross. I tried just reading erotic stories, but a lot of perverts post stuff on those sites and I don’t even want to read the title as a lot of them are, insest, gay and other gross things... and this is on the most mainstream erotic short story sites.

Porn also makes us selfish in bed, we seek a piticular activity, and female response, and this makes us miss out on the best moments when we’re not constantly thinking of “ how do I get her to fulfill that fantasy I saw online” but rather just let sex take its natural course.

The truth is, just like how seduction is an emotional process, so is our seduction and draw to porn... anyone into neuroscience? How do we re-wire our brain from this?? I think the only way is values, for example you value the man you are who does not look at porn more then you value short term pleasure. IDK about you guys, but it gives me great joy to have “porn free” in my identity, to label myself as that. It also increases confidence I believe, you know you are doing something 98 percent of guys don’t. Your already a 2 percenter!!

You can force your Firefox to use safe.duckduckgo.com and then use a site blocker to block all other search engines. Similar fixes exist for other sites.

I mentioned in the eliminating social media thread that I have been using a wired router instead of a wireless router. This partially accomplishes this.

2. Accept loss of functionality and learn to live with it. Collateral damage

3. Have porn available but not immediately available.
Its hard to find porn on my laptop, but I have a burner phone permanently kept in my office, at work : ) If I want to watch porn I need to consciously decide at work to bring it home.

In my experience the maximum degree of insulation possible is with an iphone (happy to provide details if you want).

iPhone is great for nofap. Go in to settings and restrictions and block adult content. It will ask you to enter a four digit code, twice. Enter a code you don't use and have never used before. This might work best if you do it when you're drunk. Because if you forget your restriction code, your phone is bricked for porn. Try downloading another browser... doesn't work. Try linking to porn off of Twitter or Discord or something... nope. It is a great fix for the whole device.

An element of self-control will always be necessary for noporn. I remember blocking half my laptop's functionality last year only to buy a new TV and discover TVs now come with a built-in browser.

A potential fix for those of you (us) who have to use a laptop/smartphone for school and/or business is to just cut the internet cord for a set period of time. Consider it internet intermittent fasting. As suggested, download all of the documents and everything else you need (this can include downloading emails in to a client). Then, physically disconnect the internet. If you are really bad, hand your router over to someone else. Batch your work and do it all offline. When you are done, reconnect and send everything out. At that point it's up to you if you want to leave the line open or not. I realize this can't work for everyone, but an internet fast can certainly help with NoPorn/NoFap.

Because, this ultimately comes down to willpower. But, that works both ways. You only have so much willpower to stop yourself from viewing porn. But, ALSO, you only have so much willpower to investigate and act on "novel" ways to access porn. If you have fenced porn entirely out of your life, you are going to have to have fairly high willpower to find a way to view it. And if you are at the point that you are sneaking away with your friend's cellphone in to a service station bathroom, you might need to see someone about that.
