Kiev Ukraine Data sheet - Citizen_Boris - 03-14-2012

Hi guys, just been posting about Kiev elsewhere so I thought I should add a data sheet: (I’m still learning the ropes here, so let me know if it needs tidying)

Intro:

About me: My game level is beginner, I’m from the U.K. I have slightly above average looks, 26 years old, 6” tall, very style conscious but not suited up. I’ve always done well with girls, always been fairly popular. I got into game by accident: I was looking to up my confidence when going out solo, as most of my friends won’t come to Eastern Europe with me, and it feels weird to travel alone... So I ended up here...

Kiev’s my first FSU destination. I’ve done lots of Poland and Hungary (and a tiny bit of North Romania).

I flew direct from London. It was quite cheap. I was there 2 weeks, give or take.

I didn’t spot many foreigners aside from in expat bars. Most seemed to be older business types. You won’t see the dreaded stag party here, and I’m not sure the Euro 2012 tournament will be that damaging overnight.

Foreigner status might help your game at a lower level, but one thing to note here, is that Kiev definitely has a huge Oligarch/moneyed set. There’s Prada, Cartier, Versace shops, and all the other spangly stuff you’d see in Paris, London, and New York. You’ll see all the usual supercars too. I’ve never been to Moscow, but it seems like that kind of vibe, only much smaller...

Obviously most people are dirt poor, but what I’m saying is, if you decide to roll at the high end, you’ll need the same amount of cash as in the West. Lower end is still cheap though. You can eat and drink really well on very little. Accommodation is a rip off at every level, even compared with the rest of Eastern Europe.

Yes it’s cheap, but it’s not Kharkiv, and definitely not Chisinau. I stayed in the centre in a hostel called “Kiev Backpackers”. I had my own room, but ended up having the whole building to myself! I was able to live pretty cheaply cooking my own food from the big market nearby.

Quality of girls:

I’ve read a few blogs saying Kiev has slipped slightly, and so-and-so is better. However, if you’ve come from the USA or the UK and never been to Eastern Europe, you’ll be blown away. I’ve travelled to Poland a fair bit, and I think I actually prefer Polish girls overall (mainly character wise)

(l posted here about it: http://www.rooshvforum.network/thread-10771-page-9.html and Deb Auchery’s reply to my post sums up perfectly how I feel too)

I also prefer black hair, which is obviously not prevalent, BUT I will say, there were a lot of girls who looked absolutely flawless. Body shape, height, cheekbones etc. I can see why so many are chosen for high-fashion stuff. It’s not like every girl is a 10, but they seem to have a massive genetic gift, almost like a good “base” to work from. They also seem to have a certain poise that makes them look quite elegant... The model thing again... It’s hard to explain, but you’d spot it a mile away in a room of US or UK girls. They also dress to kill, even if popping out to buy groceries.

Day Game:

I was lucky enough to arrive in unusually balmy weather for late January. I was then unlucky enough to see temperatures drop to -28 c (-18 f) a few days later. About 2000 people ended up in hospital. 135 people died (mostly homeless). 40 of those in one night... All this made for a less than lighthearted daytime experience. I did at least bring a coat.

Weirdly, you’ll never spot a Ukrainian girl so much as wobble, as her 6 inch heels negotiate potholes, cobblestones, ice, massive piles of snow and frozen corpses (I made that last part up).

Due to the cold, I wasn’t approaching in the street, so I can’t really help here. I did manage to chat a little in coffee shops. I found the ratios pretty awesome in some of these places. Which was fortunate, as the coffee was shit.

I tried a few approaches in warmer outside areas like the metro, shopping malls etc. but didn’t do particularly well. This is probably due to my game more than anything. I’m much more confident at night or in more social environments. I found it difficult to approach whilst concentrating on thawing out my testicles...

I would say though, due to being a capital, that I was expecting scary uber bitch shields, but virtually all the chicks were pleasant. I think my main issue was lack of Russian.

Speaking of which: I’d estimate from a combination of hearsay, observation, and chats with various people, that in Kiev you’ll hear 70% Russian, 30% Ukrainian spoken, despite the fact it’s the capital and you’d expect the reverse. Sometimes you’ll hear them speaking to each other in a mixture of both apparently... If you spoke Russian you’d be fine.

Pipelining:

I went on Couchsurfing for this. My usual tactic here is to ignore hot pictures and try and select a couple of options that appear to have similar tastes in music etc. After that I’ll let them phone their friends and try and get some social circle game going. It worked really well, and I was soon hanging around at a few local dive bars and some nasty looking tower blocks. I even had a few mini parties in the hostel. I managed to get two notches this way. One SNL (“Too cold to leave the party at my hostel”) and another that required a further date to secure. Both were way hotter than I see in pubs back home.

I didn’t know about Mamba at the time... It looks awesome for Kiev. I’ll be all over this next time I head out there.

I don’t really know what to say about English prevalence, the Couchsurfing people and social group were all pretty good. In the street, not brilliant, but I’d say better than others have experienced in Eastern Ukraine and Russia. Young people are much better than old obviously, and the service/transport sectors are comically funny for abruptness...

Night Game:

Again, due to the initial cold, and the fact my Couchsurfers turned out to be so cool, I didn’t do tons of mainstream clubbing: don’t be put off though, there’s a shit load about, and you’ll probably have a blast in the summer. I get the impression places come and go, so what I say might not apply in 6 months.

Clubbing and pubbing here seems quite “Naive” if you’ve come from somewhere like London, where you have multiple scenes and it’s quite cliquey. They seem to have an almost childlike love for simple techno/house and cheesy pop. Anything themed or “different” gets huge plus points too, like sitting on cushions and smoking hookah pipes.

I vaguely remember a place where they dressed as nurses and squirted syringes of some unknown cocktail into your mouth at the bar... Can’t remember the name of that one though.

And really... Is there any need to serve so much sushi? Nope... No need at all

Crystal Hall:

This place isn’t really a club, more a concert hall. It’s pretty classy inside, with a massive bar and VIP bit. (I think it’s a converted ice rink) You’d go here for gigs: Bands, big name DJs, maybe an art installation. It has the odd R&B night popping up on the calendar too. I went here twice early on in my stay, the first time to see a crazy Balkan brass band battle, and the next to some kind of pop-art thingy with DJs. The website’s got a calendar you can check. The place holds about 2000. I see they’ve had a few decent European festival circuit bands play there... Worth a look if you’re about to stab yourself in the eye due to the crap house music in town... You might find something good.

There was face control here... No problems though (Didn’t spot any sushi either)

Shooters:

I looked online and it says this place is owned by a Scottish dude. Google it, the website’s got a gallery too. I found more foreign people and expats here than anywhere else I went to. It wasn’t a sausage fest though, and I didn’t see any idiots. Prices were good I think.

I found the English level here quite high. I mainly went here because it was always open, and always busy (to a point). There’s several levels and it serves decent (and easy to order) food. It’s not somewhere I’d usually go. Not very edgy or cool, but pleasant enough, and due to cold weather, I was sticking to what worked!

Music is kind of “blah” and they had the odd band in too. The girls here were easy to chat to and the service was unusually non-snarky. The quality was decent, but I saw better elsewhere. Coming from the UK all the bars seem great in a short 2 week stay!

Also featured face control. Maybe eat food early in the night and party later if it’s busy. Again, I was fine. FSU doormen are complete tossers though... Fair warning.

Sushi? You betcha...

Arena:

This place is massive, and the only big place I went to. It was right next to Bessarabski Market and my hostel was close by, right in the centre of town. Again, back home I’d probably avoid somewhere like this like the plague. It’s the equivalent of going to London and only clubbing around Oxford Street and Leicester Square. But it was fun, and close by.

The place has a big casino, sports screens in a separate bar, large VIP area in the main club. Big balcony...It’s quite well decorated too... Oh I forgot, you can get SUSHI too! Drinks weren’t cheap, but I was able to get everyone drunk on massive amounts of vodka and beer before we all left my hostel... Happy times. If a bit chilly.

Apparently it’s part owned by the boxer Klitchko. I saw a fair few meat heads in here, but didn’t get into any trouble. It’s the sort of place I thought I’d see some higher end hookers, but being new here, I soon realised I’d have trouble spotting the difference. It was very good for ratios, some of the girls were off the scale. I can indeed confirm that Ukrainian men aren’t the handsomest bunch either...(read as: set on fire and put out with a shovel)

Yep you guessed it... More face control here...

Conclusion:

I could add more, but honestly, I didn’t do massive amounts of clubbing.

I’d definitely go back to Ukraine and Kiev, don’t be scared off, it’s just a normal city. It’s a really interesting place with some awesome sights. Just go in decent weather for god’s sake...

I would add some maps and stuff, but honestly, just get on Couchsurfing and Google. I took a Lonely Planet for the basics.

Thanks guys... I’ll add more if it comes to me. I’m off to Cyprus next week so I’ll get some better nightlife data when I do another sheet...

Just to add:

If any new guys here are looking for info, I've got loads of value from anything "Hooligan Harry", "Vorkuta" and "Deb Auchery" have posted.

Sorry if I've forgotten anyone. Most of the threads are bang on the money in terms of the girl's characters etc.

Hey Boris

Great info.
The bar with the syringes sounds like the "Hospital Bar".
I was there last summer.
Around the back of a building then down in a basement.
They put you in a straight jacket then inject into your mouth. The "syringe" must have held at least 200 or 300 ml.

Yes, good call... It's near the hostel I listed. I managed to get away without participating though! It wasn't anywhere near as mad as some of the pictures I've seen...

The other thing I just remembered to mention, is that on top of the crappy weather, I arrived just after they'd finished xmas and new year celebrations...(Orthodox) I guess that would have made it even quieter if everyone was broke....

Great Datasheet ! well done !

Finally a post on the Ukraine that involves gaming on a budget and getting laid without paying for it.

Great work Boris!

Kiev can be a lot of fun and with cheap flights from London there is really no excuse for us Brits not to head over there. The Kreschatic at night is probably my favourite place to run street game in the FSU. Amazing women!

Where else in the FSU are you planning on going in the future?

Thanks guys. Well I'd like to do Ukraine properly, when the weather's less miserable. I only scratched the surface of Kiev. I'd love to have a look at a Chernobyl trip and stuff, and then head East... But now I've been lurking on here, Georgia, Armenia etc sound interesting too...

I might conduct an in-depth survey on excessive Sushi consumption in FSU coutries... [Image: undecided.gif]

When girls I date mention Sushi, I tell them I am allergic to fish, or that I already ate and am not hungry!

Nice data sheet

I think Kiev is still very affordable compared to many European capitals. A hostel bed goes for 5-10 Euros. A three course meal at "Puzata Hata" a popular Ukrainian buffet style restaurant is around 5 euros. Supermarket food is very cheap. A pizza in a restaurant will set you back about 7 Euros or so. Big vodka and mixer about 2.5 Euros. A ride on the Metro is 20 Euro cents.

Yes totally, it's still dirt cheap compared to most places... (Sorry I forgot to post prices guys). Nights out are really cheap in general... Daytime food at those places that do set menus, "Bizniz Lunch" or whatever they call it, is very reasonable.

I just found apartments quite pricey compared to a few other cities. It wasn't so much the price, more about the quality you were getting for that price. The rest was fine...

I'm glad it wasn't just me with the sushi... I mean what is all that about? Is it maybe a show of wealth? As in, at some point, someone associated sushi with the upper classes...So now it's a must have.

It's a bit like how you were describing the leather jackets and blacked out windows... It's all about projecting a certain image I guess...

Is L'viv the same?

Kiev Ukraine Data sheet - Subotai - 03-17-2012

Damn... that sushi BS was big when I lived there a few ago.. I thought that shit was a fad and was going to die down... I guess not... now I hear there's sake bars too... what a ridiculous load of shit... the hos are just trying to floss on the guy's expense.

You guys are absolutely right.. when you hear that "let's go to a sushi bar" that means the chick sees you as a sucker, a free meal ticket.

In Kiev, if you ever hear a girl suggest the restaurants "Monaco," "Decadance," or any sushi bar, run the fuck away! She just sees a big foreign wallet and wants to exploit the hell out of you.

Hey Boris, I got some questions:

How is Shooters these days? It's actually owned by 2 Scottish guys, but the manager is Turkish and the owners defer to him. My local Kiev sources told me the Turkish manager has turned it into a Turkish place practically. That's why Western Europeans are getting face controlled. That never happened when I was there. That said, it's the easiest place in Kiev to get laid (or at least was). All the girls there are sluts trying to find foreign guys. People from Kiev call it Shluhers (shluha being the Russian word for slut) The university for dumb hos (university of culture and art) was right around the corner. Whenever I heard a girl say she studied there, it was like the bell for Pavlov's dog going off in my head. I started salivating knowing that I was going to get laid. Yeah, maybe the girl couldn't even write Russian correctly, but they were good looking. It was like grenade fishing in a barrel. By your report, I'm a bit concerned. Sounds like it's not the paradise it once was.

D'Lux is a prostitute infested shithole -- avoid like the plague. It's got seriously hot women, but 40% are pros..

Any of the bars owned by Erik (from Germany) or Viola (Erik's ex-wife that took more than half his shit) were easy to meet and talk to girls.

Deb, you are a bastard... reading your posts bring back all the memories.. still, you must be a mack daddy to be hitting so well in Western Ukraine. They're friendlier and better for LTR I thought (like Polish girls) but I found them so much harder for the single night lay. I found all the Russian speaking areas easy and the Ukrainian speaking areas difficult.

I have never taken a girl to a restaurant in Ukraine. Yeah Ukrainian girls are Sushi mad, I suppose for them it's exotic and they think they are being posh.

Plenty of bandits in Vliv, being a crook in Ukraine is a respected profession. Girls here often brag about how their fathers/brothers/etc are criminals.

Damn, never made it to Shooters, will check it out next time.

Western Ukrainians are definitely harder for SNL, I think it works in my favour that I am resident here. As in the rest of the Ukraine, there is not much of a bar scene, so nightclubs are the place to hunt.

So there is no pressure for me for SNL, I can afford to take it easy, unless there is a drought and i've been for one week without sex.

I have found my best SNL successes have been with girls from out of town, especially hen nights. Vlvi goes wedding crazy in the summer months, it's quite surreal, you'll be walking around the city and you can see brides floating around everywhere. Ukraine also has one of the highest divorce rates in the world.

Warmest day of the year today, not a cloud in the sky, the legs are coming out, thank you god.

How are the clubs and night scene in Kiev, Deb ? Are there good clubs with lots of girls? A few options or many options around summer ? Let me know, thanks.

I haven't been to many clubs in Kiev, but I did have good success at Vodka Bar, plenty of girls there.
The problem with Ukrainian clubs is that they generally play bad music, can be a bit boring(people sitting around eating etc), but the ratios are usually extremely favourable, and the men are not as much competition as in the west, unless they are rich of course

Lovin' the forum. I'm going to Kiev for a week in late May [Image: banana.gif] to scope out the land and some genuine tourism (I've travelled widely around the world and love seeing new places).

I feel there is more success to be had in having an apartment and that view is echoed here. Girls (I don't go for trash or p2p) are reluctant to check-in as a guest in a hotel as it can be perceived as slutty. It just seems easier to invite a girl back to an apartment.

I've Googled apartments in central Kiev and the offers are usually in English and for my eyes seem seriously over-priced. Money is not an issue for one week but I want to be sure I'm getting value and not being ripped off (too much).

Anyone have definite recommendations (weblinks) for myself and others ?

Thanks.

Do the exotic factor play a high role in kiev? How do an average black, latin, or mediterranean looking guy compared a local slavic guy? are most women natural blondes? I ask because blondes are my kryptonite.

Logistics matter in Kiev because you have to relax during hunting, have an apartment in walking distance from date location (almost always in the centre) and get the taxi driver to find it easily in the night after clubbing. That is why you should rent apartment in the centre near Landfill and they cost about 60-70 euro pet day for an average western standard two room apartment.

Exotic looks do not matter.A slavic guy with money will do better than a Mediterranean guy with money due to better knowledge of the language and the local culture.

Having an apartment in the downtown area is also DHV as they're quite expensive.

I'm with Kamaki... Not really. They do seem to have love for the U.K. though. It's more of a Union Jack logo, pop culture/music/fashion thing... Lots of girls find French language attractive too... again though, that's probably down to material stuff like perfume and clothes.

There are quite a lot of natural blondes yes...And a lot of un-natural colours too... I notice this because I'm the opposite of you, I like jet black hair...Which there isn't a lot of. I don't think there are many guys who wouldn't find something hot in Kiev though tbh! Go on Mamba.ru or Vk... You'll get a good idea of the percentages and whatnot for blonde hair vs others... I'm from the U.K and apart from initially noticing the overall hotness, I was quite struck by the range of different types vs back home... Mind you that's probably due to the fact that my home town is full of fat hippos...They all look the same to me...

Yes,Ukrainians are quite mixed and there is big diversity (although looks are always a slavic variation). They have mixed with Poles in the West, with Russians in the East, with Tatars and Greeks in the south, with Hungarians and Romanians in the south west. That is why in each city in Ukraine girls look different than in the next one (polish looks gradually fade from Lvov to Kamenec Podolski) with Kiev being a mix of the mixes.
A really amazing situation for the slavic lover.

Greek: This is probably the wrong thread to ask, but since we're talking about types, is there anywhere in Ukraine with a better percentage of darker haired girls? Would you be looking at places close to Moldova etc? Maybe Odessa has a good mix?
