I think liking France is alpha, because you don't give a shit what the French haters think [Image: tongue.gif]

For those who insist the French are "soft."

I love that video.

I was actually thinking of how I could somehow use it in one of the "comedy threads" that keep on popping up.

In all fairness, these are not indigenous French people. When people think of France, they don't think of the black French people. When people are thinking of swooping fly French lizards, I have yet to see anyone on this forum post up a picture of any black French lizard.

So this is not representative of the French 'hardness'.

In Defense of France - Frost - 03-02-2012

I didn't love Paris, but to be fair I was basically your prototypical birk'ed out North American (not actually rocking the stocks, but you get the idea) when I passed through. I've always been interested in checking out the south and west coast though, and I might spend 1-2 months in France this summer. Goals would be to:

1) Perfect my French, and tone up my painfully Anglo-Canadian accent

2) Surf

3) Drink copious red wine and bang sexy French girls

Can any of you recommend a sick beach town that would be perfect for this? For context, I am 27, a rookie surfer, and my budget is more Neil Skywalker than G Manifesto.

Don't think of this as a thread derailment, just use it as an excuse to pimp the glories of the surf scene on the west coast!

Maybe a bit of both!

In all fairness, speak for yourself. France is a multicultural country with people from all over the Francophone world living there (North Africans, Sub-Saharan Africans, Caribbean blacks, Vietnamese/Laotians, French Polynesians, and Middle Easterners.

As for your comment about posting pics, that's a red herring.

Does anyone post pics of black British girls or Canadians? Even if they did, why would it matter?

Look at France's national soccer team. It's always been probably the most diverse soccer team from Europe, if not the world.

I definitely think of a diverse nation when I think of France.

I've been there enough to know what I'm talking about, but that's neither here nor there.

Outside of Pele, who is the most famous black soccer player in world history? A Frenchman.

Though I may be mistaken, I think I recall you saying you are from England originally? I know there is a bit of cultural animosity between those two peoples.

I'm not saying I would rather live in France over an Anglo country. I'm very happy to be an American and I'd probably live in the UK if I were to live in Europe and had to work a proper job.

But that's beside the point. I think all these notions about the French being soft, etc. stems from prejudice or ignorance. France has shed a lot of blood over the centuries. Napolean conquered much of Europe, and that wasn't that long ago in historical terms. French culture is still widely influential and they have the largest diplomatic corps after the US. You need to have the French involved if you want to cut a deal.

They even have a larger military budget--and bigger economy--than the UK.

The French Revolution--the first such of its kind in history--is what eventually made France the model of the social democratic governments and societies that are commonplace throughout Europe today. Epic legacy and record.

Hencredible, that's cool. Your concept of people thinking of non white people when one says the word French is cool too.

Laissez faire.

In all fairness, that's a complete departure from what I originally stated.

To your red herring, white people make up the majority in most western countries, so a white person is what typically comes to mind if I were asked what image I get when I am told to think of an American, Canadian, German, Brit, French, etc.

The truth is, I posted a video from Justice that showed actual French youth engaged in mischievous behavior and you immediately tried to discredit it as not being French, merely because it was a diverse group of kids, which is wrong. That only has to come from prejudice.

That's what I'm saying. Most people who hate on France do so out of prejudice or ignorance.

In Defense of France - Moma - 03-02-2012

Hen, all I was saying is that whenever anyone wishing to go to France thinks of the French as soft in general, I am pretty sure that they are not thinking of the black French people.

It's the same way if someone talks about British men, they don't think of black people per se (in general).

In Defense of France - scotian - 03-02-2012

HC, its videos like these cause many French people to be so xenophobic, images of rowdy young punks of African origin terrorizing the streets of many French cities, roughing up innocent people and vandalizing private property. These same punks were the ones who caused untold millions of dollars in property damage and tarnished France's image during those riots in the past few years.

France has some major problems with assimilation and social integration, many of these kids are 2nd and 3rd generation French yet they feel excluded from the society that they grew up in.

This is the kind of video I would expect the far right political party Le Front National (who received quite a few votes in the 2002 election) would post on their website.

I think of France as almost like the United States of Europe. It's a pretty cool country when you think about it. They don't have a ridiculous monarchy like, say, the UK.

The French are also self-satisfied and inward looking, just like Americans.

Both countries had revolutions.

The French are also quick to organize in the streets when shit hits the fan, and it often does.

The power is in the people. That's one mentality you don't really see in the US. The US has more of an anglo mindset of order and stability, even in hard times.

French culture has seen many people of color achieve fame and success, even in sports like tennis.

Still, even with the issues of assimilation there, I think France would be the country most likely to have a black person or person of color as president than any other European country, including the UK.

Haha. I knew you'd have a problem with that statement. Do you see any European country having a person of color as a leader? If so, which one would it be?

You can definitely rule out Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, all the EE and Central European countries, Greece, and Scandinavia.

I think there's three countries where it's possible: France, UK, Netherlands.

Man, just from my experiences, observations and consultations, I think the powers to be in those final three would rather stab themselves to death with a plastic spoon than let that happen.

But if I had to place a bet...I would rank the Netherlands as the most likely.

From the way France treats her minorities, I might place her at dead last.

I never thought about it like that, but in a way it makes sense. My limited impression of France is that, although they still have this colonial mentality amonst the elite that implies that the French national identity isn't a person of color (especially the older ones), I do see more people of color in positions of power in France and the UK than in any other EU country. And they truly look at France as home and work hard to build a future there. That, to me, is the most important requisite for any black or arab Frenchman looking to become PM. The reason Obama resonated so well with the most important voting bloc in the states is because he didn't come across as catering to a certain race. Can a non-white Frenchman pull that off?

You know Hen.Cas, a lot of chicks in this country tend to value men more on their personnality. The guy on the pics is called Djamel debouzze,he's 162cm,has a fucked arm that he hides since birth, can't speak properly(stamer big time) but he's a very funny comedian. So funny..ha..ha. Of course some peeps are jealous of him but i think he deserves what i got knowing that he grew up in suburb paris with nicolas anelka( in some shit suburb) with no social equality. Big up for him!

Maybe a bit of both!

Unfortunately that video confirms the stereotype and the reality of peeps living in suburbs! It would be wrong to generalise but a lot of this youth with great potential is wasted because of parisian elitism! The thing that makes me laugh and that i find hypocrite from sarko's team is that now that the americans and qataris are investing massive amount of money in those banlieue(gold mine),they now decided to shake things up by opening the doors of the best school for some of this lost generation. Shame!
Guys,if you're a foreigner who wants to get laid in france and fuck some Melissa theuriau type(country girl) then avoid the poluted and expensive paris trap. Bordeaux, lyon, rennes, lehavre, toulouse, lemans, grenoble tend to have a lot more approchable and DTF girls than paris which is the most visited city in the world!

Hehe I have a cousin who is a pro Le pen and we had some good conversation despite a few different thoughts . But, the high minimum salary over there I think it's one of the reason why they have a big % of unemployement . And If a boss have to choose between a a former french and an immigrant He will choose the former french .

In Defense of France - l'etalon noir - 03-02-2012

Alfonzo,

What do you call a "high minimum salary"?and a "former french"?

You'd be surprise to know that Marine Lepen gets the vote of a lot of blacks, arabs, asians.I wouldn't vote for her myself but i have to say that she has good staff in her programm despite being the fact of being a complete bitch!!

Are you from quebec?
