Nothing in OP indicates that he's "pedestalized" this girl,...he hasn't spent any money on her, and he hasn't gone out of his way to see her,... he hasn't put her on a pedestal in any way.

I thought I was close and I tried to improve my skills. Although it didn't work out with this girl I became overall way more aggressive regarding escalation.
