Hands are the most natural, R-selected and Alpha way to eat.

If you use forks, knives, spoons or chopsticks you're effectively being cuckolded by the utensil. The food's been penetrated multiple times by strange utensils and you still opt to eat it? Have fun eating your Alpha fork's leftovers you cucks.

That's the Polynesian way. Us Hawaiians love our Poi.

Here's a picture of me eating breakfast today:

I'm tired of the white man telling me how to eat.

Aloha!

For some reason when I have a steak knife and fork I always end up in a position where I'm using my main hand to eat with the fork, but my offhand is holding the knife with my forearm resting on the table such that the knife is pointed blade outwards to defend the food.

I do it without thinking about it, yet I've never actually had to stab someone trying to steal food off my plate, so it's a bit of a curiosity.

I never used fork nor knife when eating before coming to France (We would use spoons only, or have the mother cut meat/fish for us, since we eat in Senegal in the same huge plate). It was not really easy at first.

I use my right hand to eat with the fork for religious reason (eat with the right hand). But it's not really a problem since I am pretty proficient with my left (ambidextrous in writing)

I will say I get funny looks eating pizza with my hands in different parts of the world.

Why hasn't this been moved to the deep forum yet?

I usually don't care about this, until I see Anglo people eat rice dishes, or even freakin' fried eggs with a knife and fork. Why??? Use a spoon!

And one other thing in the correct way to use chopsticks: pick up your damn bowl. Don't leave it on the table, then hunch over trying to pick up a grain of rice or a strand of noodle like an idiot.

This also reminds me of another observation of mine: the Brits have amazingly complicated table manners for a people with such shitty foods. What's their best contribution to world cuisines? Fish n chips?

I reckon they come up with so much crap to distract people from their horrible foods. When you are getting scolded for not holding the bloody fork right, or for your elbow brushing the table, you may not notice that you're eating meat and two vegs yet fucking again for 10 nights in a row!

I think I can give a pretty qualified answer given that I'm from the UK, South Asian and very familiar with East Asian food and cultures.

Indian food isn't meant to be eaten with a knife and fork - how the fuck do you eat this with a knife and fork? The food is designed so that you break the flat bread and use it to scoop up food.

For meat dishes the meat is already cut into chunks.

If you have rice dishes, you use a spoon or fork - some south Indians eat rice with their hands. In India restaurants give you a spoon and fork.

The rice eaten with chopsticks tends to be "sticky" rice - it sticks together and it's easier to pick up with chopsticks. It would be very hard to eat long grain rice with chopsticks. Also, in a lot of rice or noodle dishes the protein is already cut into smaller pieces.

As for knives and forks, the knife is meant to held in the right hand, and the fork in the left. I went to an etiquette class with a lot of Americans who come from pretty well backgrounds, and a surprising amount of them didn't know how to use a knife and fork properly.

A lot of Americans don't even use a knife to eat to eat certain dishes. I remember an American relative cooking breakfast for me and only handing me a fork.

What the hell is this fork and knife you talk about?

I'm a big fan of chopsticks and scissors.

Good for soup too!

The only time I've seen scissors used like this are at Korean or Chinese BBQ/hot pot places where the server uses the scissors to cut meat and/or noodles into smaller portion to make cooking or serving easier.

You guys are all beta faggots.

You feed yourselves with forks, knives and chopsticks?

I get hand fed food by my lovely Thai sla--I mean wife. I never even see food until it is totally cooked and ready to be served.

Beat that, motherfuckers!

IRT has clearly upped his game. Thirteen rep points and over 1000 posts before finally giving himself away.

Europe did dominate the whole world for centuries. Why, because we use knife and fork. Why developing countries do not want to learn? q.e.d.
All the migrants that now storm into Europe want to learn how to use a knife and a fork.

The knife and fork are wonderfully illustrative of some of the best qualities of civilized refinement. They represent patience and self-control - refusal to give into gluttony or be overtaken by vice - whilst recognising that eating is a fundamentally practical affair that must be accomplished in the most efficient manner (preserving the virtues already mentioned). This measured, methodical approach in the face of temptation, which recognizes delayed gratification as one of the great goods, is perhaps the primary reason that we in the west have shaped the world and made it what it is today.

The use of a spoon, or the hands, is illustrative of the cultural deficiencies of other nations that have not achieved the same kind of progress as we in the west have. It shows a lack of self control, and a willingness to be overcome by the prospect of immediate satisfaction - a lack of discipline.

Equally, the Asian method of eating with chopsticks shows an excessive, contrived refinement that fails to recognise the fundamentally practical process of eating for nourishment. It is an ostentatious show of wealth and leisure. It is almost an attempt to deny the fundamental utility of eating.

That was a lot of nicely typed broscience.

Using your own logic, using chopsticks shows more control (more difficult, requires more precision), and more delated gratification due to using chopsticks being more difficult.

As for chopsticks being a show of wealth ..they are made out of sticks. And can be made with a rusty knife.

Im surprised (actually, not really) to see people on this forum heavily like/rep a post just because it makes them feel good about being from the west, without actually appraising what's being written.

Ok let's get serious. The true origin of eating utensils all over the world was martial in nature.

This is the origin of the knife and fork commonly used in the Western world today.

Chopsticks, which are widely used in the Far East, were inspired by the weapons of the ancient art of Kendo.

The origin of the fork and spoon combination still remains unclear. However, for those who have ever encountered last minute resistance from a Filipino girl, the following graphic might be interesting.

The shit in that bowl, looks like the shit spraying from tubgirl's ass in the world famous photo.

I'll keep my knife and fork. Spoons are for soups, serving, savages, and children.

Exactly. Spoons are for liquids, knives are for cutting and forks are for solids, how hard is that?

We need a knife because we mostly eat food that already isn't chopped up into little pieces for us.
