Both statements are true. There is good advice in this thread, Hank Moody, Off The Reservation and a few others have already said all that needs to be done. Why spend half an hour researching someone you've never met when you can just spend 15 seconds writing "I'll be at (bar), join me for a drink"
As for the wasted advice thing, yes, the OP may not use any of the advice and in that case it's wasted on him. But someone else facing a similar situation might come across this thread and actually put the advice in action. Whether it's a forum member or even a lurker, if it helps someone it's not wasted advice.
