I must be getting soft as I get old, but I couldn't help feel sorry for Ahmed Best (the actor who played Jar Jar Fucking Binks) when I read this story about how he contemplated suicide following the response to his 'big break'.

'20 years next year I faced a media backlash that still affects my career today. This was the place I almost ended my life. It’s still hard to talk about. I survived and now this little guy is my gift for survival. '

https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2445060...s-backlash

Imagine how he must have felt as a young actor 20 years ago when he found he'd bagged a fairly big part in the new Star Wars Prequels! Then the slow horror of realising that your big break was becoming synonymous with failure and ridicule.

Imagine telling your son that you played Jar Jar Binks. I'm not even being flippant here, I just don't know how you'd begin to approach that! You shouldn't really feel ashamed of it (he's just a jobbing actor), but as a father you would never want your son to feel bad about you. I'd probably avoid it. In case he was bullied as a result.

Horrible situation. I wish him the best and hope he at least makes a lot of good money from it with voice-overs etc.

Still hate TLJ though.

I didn't even know an actor played jarjarbinks until earlier this year, I just always thought it was cgi.

I remember the actor who played Anakin in the Phantom Menace, Jake Lloyd, got bullied a lot for playing him and had a lot of mental health issues.

Good for him. I hope he bends Disney over the desk.

At this point, Star Wars isn't about entertainment or film. It's just about MONEY. Everybody involved should squeeze the shit out of the moment while they can. Cash in. Hamill should start unloading his Star Wars toy empire. Lucas already got his 4 billion and was able to get the burden of all those employees off his back, so now he can relax and enjoy his new wife.

Meanwhile in 10 years it will be a joke, written off the books, and Disney will be discretely whittling away at their lame, underperforming "Star Wars land" to build other more successful attractions.

Billy Dee Williams as the big draw on the next movie? What a joke. Nothing wrong with the actor or his character. But he was secondary in the original trilogy. Killing off the best-loved characters and then giving us Lando as a last ditch gesture is pathetic and insulting.

Dr Johnson rumbles with the RawGod. And lives to regret it.

^^ I can imagine the production meetings:

Disney Exec: I don't know, guys, how do we turn this around?

JJ: Give the fans one of the original characters. We've killed most of them, how about....Lando?

Story Team: Great! But not the boring, CIS womanizer version. Let's make him a new Lando brave enough to explore his bisexuality and woke enough to accept a strong woman's leadership.

Everyone at once: Can't miss!

By the way, the Rotten Tomatoes hatewatch continues: 46% like, 2.9 out of 5 like score. We haven't hit the cartoon-movie Clone Wars 38% yet, but give it time.

The irony of course is that if TLJ had sent Luke and Leia off with dignity and their characters intact, that would have been it. Everyone understands the concept of passing the torch and it usually makes for a good story. Hell Obi-Wan says exactly "I'm getting too old for this sort of thing" in the original movie.

How The Last Jedi Destroyed The Continuity Of Star Wars [Storycraft]

Quote:Quote:

The ability to understand information through a story’s narrative is called “narrative rationality,” and it is made up of two elements: Narrative Coherence, and Narrative Fidelity.

Narrative Coherence is the degree to which a story makes sense. Coherent stories are internally consistent, with sufficient detail, reliable characters, and free of major surprises. Audiences assess a story’s coherence by comparing it with similar stories.

Narrative Fidelity is the degree to which a story fits into the audience’s prior understanding. Stories with fidelity do not violate things an audience has come to accept to be true, such as being able to breathe in outer space without the assistance of an oxygen tank, for example.

When these two elements are respected, it prevents audiences from formulating objections to the narrative based on rational thought. So long as “narrative rationality” is maintained, so too is the suspension of disbelief.

In short: So long as a story makes sense, audiences will believe it.

Good article. Every created word has to somehow fit narrative points and logical coherence within that world.

The Last Jedi and the Farce Awakens broke a few of those points:

+ Rey being a Mary Sue learning the Force by magic faster than any Jedi or Sith ever before
+ Holdo lightspeed kamikaze bombing destroys the entire previous military strategy and makes even Death Stars obsolete - everyone should be havng lightspeed rammings everywhere - you come out of hyperspace and are bombarded by countless hyperspace bomb ships
+ Leia Mary Poppins of doing better force powers than countless Jedis who were slaughtered by the clone troopers - all without training in the force

There are of course other added points of minor issues:
+ total irrational character destruction of Luke
+ Rey's way of learning the force - even repeated by Kylo - how the fuck would Kylo know that she would become instantly super-powerful? That does not make any sense.
+ fuel being suddenly a super-important issue
+ hyperspace following via a special machine instead of a previously included tracker - would it have killed them to say that they had an Empire spy on board? Because otherwise any resistance would be pretty much useless since the big armies can track them indefinitely

Ah well.... - when Bolsheviks do movies, then it at best is useful to watch old Stalinist insanity.

And the rumors are that Disney is rolling out anyone out there:

+ old Lando Pansexual Calrissian is back
+ old ragged coward shrimp-cousin-wannabe-killer walrus-tit-sucker Luke Skywalker is back as a force ghost
+ Yoda likely back in his first idiotic play-dumb and Bolshevik behavior - burn it all - plus he has superpowers - should have nuked the Death Star with his super-lightning
+ Ewan McGregor is supposedly back as Obi Wan

They will likely slaughter Lando while he gets a blowjob by a robot on the toilet - just be blown out to space with his balls freezing while the robot bites his pansexual dick off - extra points when a frozen log hits him in the face.
They cannot kill Obi Wan, but they sure can make him look like a weak chump in face of the super-powerful Rey MarySue.

After that movie, then they will only have Darth Maul and Obi Wan left to ruin or kill off.

The other week, inspiration hit me and I bought all 3 2006 Limited Edition original trilogy DVDs.

On the bonus discs for all three films are original movies before Lucas begin adding in CGI in the late 90s.

The video quality isn't the best, but this is the closest he ever gave them to a respectful DVD release, and as far as I know he never released them again. I'll proudly hold onto these.

It's a shame, though, that Star Wars has gotten so bad I now miss the prequels and how insufferable Lucas could be.

There is a "despecialized" edition of the original trilogy out there that was done in HD. A man who calls himself Harmy made free for download. It's an incredible labour of love. He did it as good, if not a better job that Lucasfilm ever did or will do. Colour graded to the more flatter lifelike colours of the 70's/80's (how it originally was).

I had never seen the original cuts which many raved about, so I went and downloaded at the bay of pirates and was blown away how much more immersive it felt. As it was. The original trilogy's editing is different too. I can see why people are pissed at the changes but I appreciate one or two changes overall (the triumphant ending music change for Return of the Jedi, as the Empire are on their way out the door)

I believe Harmy did his HD release using the Laserdisc and the 2006 dvds you mention as a source.

Half thinking of burning them to blu ray for posterity.

Those look nice but you can't make HD out of DVD and LD sources. LaserDisc has about as many lines of resolution as VHS tape (about 240 lines), and DVD is 480 lines maximum.

VIDEO SOURCES:

STAR WARS Episode IV A New Hope Official Blu-Ray 2011 (Preliminary colour correction by You_Too)

STAR WARS 2006 Bonus DVD (sourced from the 1993 Definitive Edition Laser Disc Master - upscales by Dark Jedi, You_Too and Harmy)

Star.Wars.Episode.IV.A.New.Hope.1977.720p.HDTV.x264-DON (2004 DVD Version)

STAR WARS 1997 Special Edition (Reivax DTV capture)

Custom mattes, 35mm and 70mm film cell scans etc.

Team Negative1 35mm LPP print scan of the Mos Eisley sequence

Puggo Grande (1977 16mm print transfer)

After reading through the source list my guess is they're using those HD copies for the bulk of the movie only splicing in the upscaled SD content if there's nothing else to use.

I can't imagine how many hours of effort this took, color correction is an extremely time-consuming process. Weaponized autism at it's finest!

Thanks for the tip I'm going to grab this and have a look. I've got the original trilogy on LaserDisc in my collection, going to pull it and compare with the new BluRay releases.

Broke - "We need to commemorate Carrie Fischer correctly, so..., we're going to use a whole bunch of old footage from TFA & TLJ rather than use CGI...!"

Oh, trust me, I'm familiar! Based Harmy representing Eastern Europe, too (he's Czech, and as a quarter Slovak myself, I'm proud to hear it).

One of the main reasons I sought these out is so I could download Harmy's remastering legally. He is very afraid of getting sued and wants you to own the DVDs first. Out of respect I decided to hold off on downloading since I admire his efforts so much.

That is why this guy's channel is growing - he is honest even when back then he thought that he would get a lot of flak for disliking the Last Jedi (the initial mainstream press was overwhelmingly positive).

Now reports what we all expected - Rian Johnson's trilogy not happening and him being fired:

At this point anyone would actively create Rian-Johnson boycott-sites.

Solo tanked despite being much better than The Last Jedi. And the crapheads still continue insulting the fans.

Supposedly the title is Star Wars The New Order.

Yeah - it's a new world order alright. Stupid cunts can eat shit. I am only personally giving them money if I like some aspects of video games. Star Wars Battlefront II has some good multiplayer gameplay which I enjoy. Also note how all the old characters in those games - even the ones in the prequels - are far more popular and beloved than the new hollow husks they created.

Also interesting that all polls regarding demanded characters concern either Star Wars Clone Wars characters (Ahsoka, Ventress) or even prequel plot lines (Order 66, Coruscant).

Those Bolshevik film creators..... can't do good propaganda.

The original satirical reviewers, They managed somehow to find more even wrong with it, despite other 10 hour long epic reviews picking the bones over the last year. The Antifa scenes on the casino planet. The smug punchable face of the kid at the end. The deleted scenes and the behind the scenes are true next level WTF. I've never watched National Lampoon but the plot points I see in this review are hilarious.

I could read those comments and watch analysis on why TLJ was so bad all day long. It's like a whole new industry was created when they pushed that turd out. It almost makes the film itself worth it!

It won't be long before they'll have to disable comments on anything Star Wars related. It didn't have to be like this! If only they stuck to the time-worn plan of just 'trying to make a great movie'.

It was only a matter of time before they hit Warhammer.

WH40k in particular attracts the 'wrong sort' and they obviously haven't failed to notice. Putting your head over the parapet and pursuing profits is a double-edged sword; the collective behind the SJW crowd will happily pump money into your brand but it will come at a high cost.

Ho-hum, something else fine and good for them to kill off. Guess it's time to buy up a few choice pre-SJW novels and collectibles before the infection picks up speed.
