The Chinese radio operators are reading off of a script sheet that most likely provides the original Chinese phrasing followed by an English translation.

It's entirely possible that some of them couldn't even order a hamburger at McDonalds in English. It would make sense that the radio operators would be able to speak English, but judging from the recording of the conversation, it's entirely possible that they don't or that there skill level is extremely beginner.

Chinese government employees are not permitted to have any foreign contacts at all. I have some adult students who come to my class, but cannot exchange contact information with me because they work for the government. They probably aren't supposed to even be talking to me.

I think it's safe to assume that anyone in the Chinese military would be a few steps removed from anyone resembling a native English instructor.

There are many Chinese, who despite having horrific grammar, think their grammar is good because they can get all the questions right in their English textbook.

The thing about English textbooks in China is that they are written by Chinese people who are far from being fluent in English. They are uniformly full of mistakes. The idea of having a native speaker double-check the accuracy of a Chinese written English textbook has never occurred to any Chinese person anywhere.

They all operate from the understanding that Chinese people are far more intelligent than all non-Chinese and for matters concerning China or Chinese people in anyway, nothing of value can be learned from a foreigner, including English.

The only reason why native speakers are employed in China at all, is because they think that having a native-English speaking teacher is the only way to pick-up the correct pronunciation of words (and to show how rich you are, since not everyone can afford a white-faced teacher).

They don't even want the foreign teacher to teach grammar or explain how the language works to students. They just want them talking in English as much as possible.

Chinese parents tend to freak the fuck out if a foreign teacher breathes as much as one word in Chinese during a class. They could care less about the professional judgment of the foreign teacher regarding which teaching methods will have the best result, as they've already concluded that the teacher has nothing to contribute other than correct pronunciation.

The Chinese dudes on the radio probably think that they are doing an stellar job communicating with the evil American interlopers.

To their credit, if 99.5% of American airman attempted to read Chinese off of a script, the result would be a lot worse than the Chinese military personnel's poor attempts at English.

I can't not laugh at this shit. China doesn't scramble stealth jets. They just say, "Prease go away!"

It looks like we got our best gals flying the new p8.

At about the 6:00 mark she identifies herself. It sounds like the Chinese guy comes back with "You Go Girl!" at 6:26.

I just picture a senate hearing with her saying " well his radar was creepy, so I fired my missiles!"

Fifty years later this is known as the "Get it Girl" incident.

Aloha!

This is in international airspace, with the closest land being the Spratly Islands, which are part of the Philippines, as confirmed by a recent UN ruling.

Yet the people who eat up the abundant Chinese propaganda in the Western media will tell you that it is the US who is "warmongering" and "agitating", not the country that's literally building military installations on another country's territory and shouting "go away" at people if they fly anywhere near it.

China is just a few steps below North Korea in terms of how comically unreasonable they are.

The USA is responsible. We buy billions of dollars of their shit trinkets. We asked for it.

Perhaps Trump can put a 1000% tariff on the imports of their whoreshit products and we can start buying American. The Chinese will crumble.

This is the kind of moronic arrogance that got their asses handed to them time and time again in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Read up on the Second Opium War, they got raped by an Anglo-French army that was outnumbered 10-1. Look up the Boxer Rebellion, again you see their armies being thrashed by tiny numbers of Western soldiers. Why? Because they never studied the industrialised countries. They were too arrogant to attempt to learn from them, and they paid bitterly for those mistakes.

They've been doing plenty of studying lately though. China's
military budget has been stuck at just under 2% of their GDP,
but that GDP has been skyrocketing, so the military spending
is at about $200 billion/yr. That's only about one third of the US',
but you know that (1) their hammers don't cost $1,000 apiece,
and (2) they don't waste trillions on middle eastern wars
and European bases.

A lot of their military budget goes to maintain the world's largest
standing army, but those foot soldiers are cheap, as are their
R&D people. So they're already churning up 5th gen stealth fighters
like the J20 at about a quarter the cost of the F35, while that program
is still mired in cost overruns and design issues...

Since when are communist governments known for their efficiency and lack of wasteful spending? [Image: lol.gif]

China's debt is not much lower than the US', when looked at as percentage of GDP, and the one advantage of fighting so many wars is that America's military equipment and tactics are actually battle tested, as are Israel's (where we buy a lot of equipment).

The J-20 is an F-22 counterpart, and they cost roughly the same price.

The J-31 is the F-35 counterpart, and it's based on stolen F-35 plans. Does anyone really think the Chinese took a broken American design and fixed it?

In fact, of all the technology they've stolen from other countries, both consumer and military, they've yet to make ANY of it better. And they haven't made any technological advancements of their own.

Whoda thunk that cheating on tests in degraded Western universities then waving around an ill-gotten diploma wasn't a recipe for high technological advancement?

They did once make a dual-sim Android iPhone clone. I'll give them credit for that.

The F-22 costs over $200M per, several times over the cost of a J-20.

There would be far more accountability in a communist government than in the US's revolving-door crony capitalist system run by the military industrial complex. The reason Trump is able to take off hundreds of millions off the cost of the new Air Force One is that this price is set by shareholders, lobbyists and corrupt politicians who are not looking out for the taxpayers.

The Pentagon had trillions of dollars unaccounted for, yet no one got fired, they got promoted instead. It's too bad that all the accounting records in that particular Pentagon department just happened to be destroyed on 9/11, and almost all of the accountants, bookkeepers and budget analysts that had been investigating this 2 trillion dollar discrepancy also happened to get wiped out in the process...
