Update for Playa del Carmen as of Easter. So, I spent the whole Easter week in Playa and wanted to post this update before, but couldn’t. Besides I have received many messages asking me for my latest intel about Playa. So here it goes.
Sargassum. Seaweed is gone, the beaches are clean and magnificent once again.
Vasso. There’s a new club in the 12th -Vasso. It’s a small, very nice club, specifically designed to facilitate quick pick-ups. This club is next to ‘Palazzo’ and across the Street from ‘Salsanera’. The front is narrow and the place is strip shaped. As soon as you get in you are going to find a long aisle with a bar mounted at the left and bar stools and tables for chatting and nothing else. At the back of the place there’s a small dancing court with two or three tables and two sofas. At the very end you’ll find a set where a local group plays some music around midnight. This place is still looking for a steady defined clientele. The first time I went was a little surreal. There was a group of Canadian MILFs happily interacting with Mexican men. The next day the place was packed with Mexican hipsters because the band played a collection of 90s Mexican pop -the horror.
Palazzo. I finally went to this place and I didn’t like it. It seems that this club has got the right to hold every bachelorette party in Playa. Every night there are at least three groups of American girls partying to give one of their virginal members the ‘last’ night of fun. Much to my dismay Mexican girls have jumped into the trend and now they are following suit. Anyway, the place is expensive and the whole environment is of cock blocking. Besides, these girls are so slutty (they were wearing thongs and swimsuits over the shorts, funny t-shirts like ‘Slut 1’, ‘Slut 2’ and those ridiculous short veils) that they didn’t give me any hard on. A friend of mine told me that I went too early (around 12:30) and that the opportunities come around 2:00 a.m. when the girls in groups have gone. It’s up to you.
The Blue Parrot, the pioneer club of Playa, has come back. Every Wednesday there is a bikini contest around 12:30 and the environment heats up. However, the place never gets crowded and so the real momentum never comes up -it’s sad.
Diablito Cha-Cha-Cha. Since Mandala is horrendously crowded and expensive, Diablito (across de street) is getting popular and crowded as well. I’d say that this is the best place right now in Playa for night game. Great environment and a very decent ratio.
Playacar. This is the beach strip which goes from the ferry station to the South (check out the map) and it was a nice surprise. Since this beach is the front of the development of the same name there are no beach clubs except from ‘Señor Frogs’. The first time I went to Playa the place was almost deserted but now it’s attracting a lot of people, many packers among them. Good place for day game.
Cozumel. This is serious, guys, don’t go to this island, unless you want to do some professional scuba diving -the place is fucked up beyond repair. To reach here is easy and cheap. The ferry round trip is only MXN 300 (USD 15). But as soon as you get, troubles begin. Why? Because the cruisers have come back big time to the place and every single service is horrendously inflated. As soon as the passengers from the ships land, they storm every taxi site, every car rental, every shop, every restaurant, every excursion stand… Everything. And since they are in a hurry (they are given only six to eight hours to do their touring) they don’t mind to spend big bucks. Taking a taxi to one of the beaches (incredibly beautiful, by the way) is about MXN 400. But be sure to ask the driver to pick you up back some hours later because the service is not available on the coastal highway.
Renting a car is a shit. MXN 900 for just 8 hours. Besides when you drop the car back the agency is going to ask you for a MXN 130 receipt from the gas station. Renting a scooter is MXN 300, but you have to refuel MXN 50 of gas. Renting a Polaris Dune Buggy to travel all the coastal highway and then the dirt road all the way to South end of the island to visit the lighthouse and the crocodile farm is about MXN 2,250… And yes, you have to show them a MXN 130 receipt of gas when you drop the bitch. Night life in Cozumel? Sure thing! Hundreds of hookers who are ready to service all the guys who are not having any luck in the boat. No clubs! The most incredible thing you see is when people leave the cruisers and go directly to the restaurants… Don’t they feed them on board?
